Abu Dhabi Tokyo Museum Partnership

Abu Dhabi and Japan are deepening their cultural collaboration through a new partnership between the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) and the Tokyo National Museum. The five-year agreement, signed at DCT Abu Dhabi headquarters, promises to strengthen ties through joint exhibitions, research projects, and professional exchanges between the two nations.

Expanding Cultural Bridges between Abu Dhabi and Japan

This partnership reflects a shared commitment to fostering greater understanding between the UAE and Japan. Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi, emphasized the importance of building cultural bridges through education and mutual learning. “This agreement will further strengthen our cultural relations, inspiring future generations through research, education, and museum activities,” Al Mubarak stated.

The collaboration is set to explore shared cultural traditions through exhibitions, bringing together Japanese and Emirati heritage to audiences in both countries. The partnership also involves the exchange of museum expertise, offering staff training, and joint preservation efforts.

Joint Exhibitions and Cultural Exchange

The partnership includes a broad range of initiatives, such as lending and borrowing cultural materials, and offering educational courses and workshops. Makoto Fujiwara, Executive Director of the Tokyo National Museum, highlighted the opportunity for creative exchange. “We are excited about the prospects of enriching the global cultural landscape and presenting new visions for creativity in the museum sector,” Fujiwara commented.

This agreement marks a significant step in enhancing Abu Dhabi’s global museum network, reinforcing its position as a hub for cultural collaboration. Through such initiatives, the emirate continues to strengthen its role as a leading cultural destination.
