Huawei Pura X2 is now expected to launch later than originally anticipated, according to a new leak pointing to a shift in Huawei’s release schedule. The delay suggests the next-generation foldable will arrive after the Huawei Pura 90 series, breaking from the brand’s usual timeline for its Pura X lineup.
The development signals a more cautious rollout strategy as Huawei prepares hardware upgrades and aligns its foldable roadmap for 2026.
Pura X2 tipped to launch after Pura 90 series
Huawei Pura X2 is reportedly set to debut later than the Pura 90 series, which is still expected to follow Huawei’s traditional launch window. Leaks indicate the Pura 90 models could arrive in late Q1 or Q2 2026.
If accurate, this would place the Pura X2 launch in the second quarter of 2026 at the earliest. By comparison, the original Pura X launched in March 2025, making this a noticeable delay for the foldable successor.
Pura X2 keeps its wide folding design
Huawei Pura X2 is expected to retain the distinctive wide folding form factor introduced with the first-generation Pura X. When unfolded, the device offers a large display experience closer to a compact tablet than a traditional smartphone.
This unique approach has been a defining feature of the Pura X series, setting it apart from tall, narrow foldables on the market.
Kirin 9030 chip powers Huawei Pura X2
In terms of performance, Huawei Pura X2 is tipped to run on the Kirin 9030 processor. This is the same chip expected to power the Mate 80 series and features a new nine-core architecture.
The move from the Kirin 9020, used in the original Pura X, to the Kirin 9030 would represent a clear generational upgrade in processing capability.
Pura X2 camera system details
Huawei Pura X2 is rumored to feature a quad-camera setup. The expected configuration includes a 50-megapixel main sensor, a 40-megapixel ultra-wide camera, an 8-megapixel telephoto lens, and a 1.5-megapixel multispectral channel camera.
This would expand on the imaging capabilities of the previous model, which already delivered strong camera performance for a foldable device.
What the original Huawei Pura X offered
The first Pura X featured a 6.3-inch LTPO OLED inner display with a 16:10 aspect ratio, paired with a 3.5-inch external screen. It also packed a 4,720mAh battery with 66W wired charging and 40W wireless charging support.
Its triple-camera system included a 50-megapixel primary camera, a 40-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and an 8-megapixel telephoto camera with 3.5x optical zoom. The Pura X2 is expected to match or improve on these specifications.
Why the Pura X2 delay matters
The delayed timeline suggests Huawei may be refining both hardware and software to deliver a more polished foldable experience. With competition intensifying in the foldable phone market, Huawei appears focused on ensuring the Pura X2 arrives with meaningful upgrades rather than rushing its release.
As leaks continue to emerge, the Pura X2 remains one of the most anticipated foldables of 2026.
