Bradford is set to significantly expand its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure with an additional £75,000 in funding, bringing the total to £357,881. This increase is part of the Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) Capability Scheme, which aims to increase charging points in areas where residents have limited access to off-street parking. The funding boost comes from a regional scheme designed to make EVs more accessible in high-density housing areas across West Yorkshire.
Increasing EV Charging Points in West Yorkshire
The LEVI scheme, which targets five council areas in West Yorkshire, has seen great success. The funding will help to install 716 new EV charging points—an increase from the original goal of 232. This expansion has been made possible due to the 58% contribution from the private sector, which surpassed initial market testing expectations.
Bradford, along with neighboring districts like Leeds, Calderdale, and Wakefield, will see an uptick in accessible charging locations. The increased funding will ensure that these locations can better support the growing number of electric and hybrid vehicle owners across the region.
EV Charging Expansion Timeline Extended
Along with the additional funding, the timeframe for completing the charging point installations has been extended to April 2028, allowing more time for the delivery of this vital infrastructure. This extended period will ensure that the installation process is thorough and efficient, ensuring optimal coverage across Bradford and the wider West Yorkshire area.
The LEVI scheme not only boosts the EV charging network but also supports the UK’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions by promoting electric transportation options.
This boost in funding highlights the growing commitment to clean energy and sustainable transport in Bradford, with more accessible EV infrastructure expected to play a crucial role in the city’s green future.
