Global Player In-Car App Expands to Major Automotive Brands

Global Player in-car access has taken a major leap forward as the popular audio streaming app becomes available directly inside vehicles from leading automotive brands. The move allows drivers to stream live radio, podcasts and curated playlists straight from their car dashboards without needing to rely entirely on a smartphone.

The expansion marks a significant milestone for Global, the UK-based media and entertainment company behind stations such as Heart, Capital and Classic FM. With deeper integration into infotainment systems, Global Player in-car listening aims to make audio content more seamless and accessible for commuters and long-distance drivers alike.

Global Player In-Car Integration Expands Across Brands

Global Player in-car functionality was first introduced through a partnership with BMW, making it the initial car manufacturer to offer the app directly within BMW and MINI vehicles. Now, the rollout has broadened to additional major automotive brands.

The app is available via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, enabling users to stream live radio, catch up on shows from the previous seven days and rewind live broadcasts. In addition, listeners can explore a large library of podcasts and music playlists while on the road.

For the first time, the service is also available on Android Automotive. Unlike Android Auto, which mirrors a connected smartphone, Android Automotive operates as a built-in system within the vehicle. This means drivers can download and use the Global Player Automotive app directly from their car’s app store without connecting a mobile device.

Compatible vehicles can access the app through platforms such as the BMW Connected Store and Google Play Store. The rollout currently includes BMW, MINI, Volvo, Polestar, Renault and Nissan, with more manufacturers expected to join in the future.

What Global Player In-Car Offers Drivers

Global Player in-car access allows drivers to continue listening exactly where they left off on another device. Whether a user was streaming a podcast at home or listening via a smart speaker, playback can resume in the vehicle without interruption.

The app provides access to popular stations including Heart, Capital, Smooth, Classic FM, LBC, Radio X and Gold Radio. Beyond live radio, users can browse thousands of podcasts and playlists, all managed through the vehicle’s touchscreen or voice assistant.

This functionality reduces friction for listeners who want a smooth, uninterrupted audio experience during daily commutes or longer journeys. It also supports safer in-car interaction by integrating directly into existing dashboard controls.

Strategic Push into Automotive Audio

The expansion of Global Player in-car availability reflects a broader trend in the media industry. Audio consumption increasingly extends beyond homes and smartphones into connected vehicles. As car manufacturers adopt more advanced infotainment systems, streaming platforms are competing for dashboard space.

Global describes the launch as part of its strategy to make listening effortless. By embedding the app directly into vehicles, the company aims to strengthen user loyalty and increase engagement across its portfolio of radio brands and podcasts.

The integration also supports advertising innovation. Global operates DAX, a digital audio advertising platform that connects brands with listeners across music streaming services, connected radio and podcasts. In-car listening could provide additional opportunities for targeted digital audio advertising.

Outlook for Connected Car Audio

As vehicles become more digitally connected, built-in streaming services are likely to become standard features rather than add-ons. The Global Player in-car expansion positions the company to benefit from this shift in listening habits.

With additional automotive launches planned, the availability of direct dashboard streaming could reshape how drivers access radio and podcast content across the UK and Europe.
