Saudi Arabia data centre development has reached a new milestone after the Kingdom unveiled what it describes as the world’s largest government-owned data centre in Riyadh. The project marks a major step in Saudi Arabia’s push to become a global leader in advanced digital infrastructure under Vision 2030.

The newly launched Hexagon Data Centre places Saudi Arabia firmly in the global race for large-scale digital infrastructure. Classified as Tier IV, the highest international standard for reliability, the facility is designed to support national development sectors as data and artificial intelligence become central to economic growth.
The Saudi Arabia data centr initiative is led by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority and aligns with the Kingdom’s long-term strategy to leverage advanced technologies for social and economic transformation.
Vision 2030 and Saudi Data Centre Strategy
The project reflects the vision of Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman to position Saudi Arabia as a global hub for emerging technologies. Developing sovereign digital infrastructure has become a strategic priority as the Kingdom diversifies beyond oil and strengthens control over national data assets.
Saudi Arabia already ranks highly in global technology indicators, including government strategy in international AI benchmarks, reinforcing the significance of this data centre investment.
National Network and Economic Impact
The Saudi data centre is intended to serve as the foundation for a nationwide network of advanced facilities. SDAIA’s expansion plan aims to meet rising demand for digital services while ensuring maximum system availability based on global standards.
Authorities estimate the programme will generate more than SR10bn ($2.7bn) in cumulative local economic impact. In addition, annual savings exceeding SR1.8bn ($480m) are expected through improved efficiency and digital integration across government services.
Scale, Sustainability, and Technical Standards
The Hexagon Data Centre spans more than 30 million square feet and delivers a capacity of 480 megawatts. It incorporates advanced energy-efficient technologies, including direct liquid cooling and hybrid systems, to minimise power consumption.
Renewable energy sources are integrated into operations, enabling the Saudi Arabia data centre to meet LEED Gold sustainability standards. The facility also holds Tier IV certification, guaranteeing 99.995 per cent operational availability, alongside ISO and TIA-942 certifications for resilience and environmental protection.

As global demand for AI-driven computing accelerates, Saudi data centre investments are expected to play a central role in boosting non-oil economic growth, improving digital government services, and enhancing quality of life across the Kingdom.
