At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Dowson Tong, Senior Executive Vice-President of Tencent and CEO of Tencent Cloud and Smart Industries Group, shared his vision for the future of artificial intelligence (AI). He emphasized the importance of open ecosystems in unlocking the true value of AI, allowing both consumers and enterprises to choose from a variety of large models tailored to specific applications. According to Tong, while many view AI as a singular, all-encompassing super system, the reality is much more diverse, with different models serving different needs.
Tencent Cloud’s AI strategy revolves around offering flexibility and choice. Tong explained that their approach is model-agnostic, allowing customers to select the right AI model based on their unique requirements. By providing diverse AI tools and products, Tencent aims to empower users to make informed decisions that best address their challenges, ultimately driving innovation and efficiency across industries.
Tencent AI strategy, this philosophy is evident in Tencent’s internal use of AI. The company’s proprietary coding assistant, CodeBuddy, has revolutionized its operations. With over 12,000 engineers using it, CodeBuddy generates more than half of the new code, reducing coding time by over 40%. In a significant achievement, 90% of the code for Tencent’s recently upgraded AI CLI tool, CodeBuddy Code, was generated by the assistant itself.
Tencent is also pushing the boundaries of AI with its Hunyuan large model series. In the past year, the company has released more than 30 new models, covering areas such as hybrid reasoning, image generation, video synthesis, and 3D content creation. The Hunyuan 2.0 model, which boasts an impressive 406 billion parameters, is particularly notable for its high performance and operational efficiency. Moreover, Tencent’s open-source Hunyuan 3D model has gained significant traction, with over 3 million downloads on the platform Hugging Face, positioning it as one of the most popular 3D models for creators and developers.
Tencent’s approach to AI is not just about technology but about making it accessible and adaptable for everyone. By embracing both proprietary and open-source innovations, Tencent is shaping a future where AI is a tool for all, unlocking new possibilities across industries and empowering users worldwide.
In conclusion, Tencent AI strategy, unveiled at Davos, is rooted in flexibility, collaboration, and innovation. By offering diverse, model-agnostic tools and continuously advancing its own AI capabilities, Tencent is paving the way for a more accessible and efficient AI-driven future.
