Saudi Arabia has embarked on an exciting journey into ultra-luxury tourism with the launch of Dream of the Desert, its first Italian-designed ultra-luxury train. This project, a groundbreaking partnership between Italian firm Arsenale and SIMEST, has secured €37 million ($40 million) in equity and €35 million ($38 million) in loan financing from Saudi Tourism Development Fund. The train will redefine travel in Saudi Arabia, offering an exclusive experience that merges Italian craftsmanship with the Kingdom’s cultural heritage.
Ultra-Luxury Train in Saudi Arabia
The Dream of the Desert train will operate on one- and two-night itineraries departing from Riyadh, taking passengers to stunning destinations such as Hail and UNESCO World Heritage sites, including the Taste of AlUla itinerary. The luxurious onboard and offboard experiences will offer a glimpse into Saudi Arabia’s rich history and natural beauty, enhanced by the expertise of Italian artisans. Designed by Aline Asmar d’Amman, the interiors promise an exceptional travel experience, showcasing the finest in Italian design and hospitality.

This innovative project stems from an agreement between Arsenale and Saudi Arabia Railways, marking a milestone in international collaboration. The involvement of SIMEST, along with Saudi institutions, highlights the strengthening of Italy–Saudi economic ties.
