Ask YouTube

YouTube is rolling out conversational AI search and new Gemini-powered video tools to reshape how users discover and create content.

YouTube is introducing a major AI update that could change how people search for videos and create content on the platform.

The company recently launched Ask YouTube, a conversational AI search feature designed to handle more detailed and natural questions from users. The rollout is part of Google’s broader push to integrate artificial intelligence across its products and services.

According to TechCrunch, the feature allows users to ask complex search questions instead of relying only on keywords. The system then generates responses using both YouTube Shorts and long-form videos.

How Ask YouTube Works

Ask YouTube aims to make video discovery feel more interactive and personal.

Users can ask detailed questions such as how to teach a child to ride a bike or request creator recommendations for cozy games before bedtime. The system also supports follow-up questions, allowing users to refine results naturally.

YouTube says the tool better understands user intent and delivers more relevant video recommendations. It also generates summaries and contextual responses around search results.

At launch, Ask YouTube is only available to Premium subscribers in the United States using desktop devices through YouTube’s experimental features program.

The update reflects a wider shift happening across Google’s ecosystem. Traditional search bars are increasingly evolving into AI-powered conversational interfaces.

Gemini Omni Expands Across YouTube Shorts

YouTube also announced that it is bringing Gemini Omni to YouTube Shorts Remix and the YouTube Create app.

Google says the AI video model improves storytelling by understanding user intent more accurately and handling complex audio and video adjustments automatically.

The company believes the tool will help creators produce more polished short-form videos while simplifying editing workflows behind the scenes.

YouTube described Gemini Omni as a new way for creators to build on each other’s imagination through AI-powered remixing tools.

The announcement highlights how aggressively platforms are investing in AI-assisted video creation as competition in short-form content continues to grow.

AI Video Tools Continue to Divide Opinion

Despite rapid AI expansion, reactions to AI-generated video tools remain mixed across the technology industry.

Companies such as Meta and OpenAI have faced criticism over AI-generated media and synthetic social content.

OpenAI previously shut down its Sora social-sharing app, which allowed users to post AI-generated videos publicly.

YouTube appears to be taking a more measured approach. Instead of building a separate AI-focused platform, the company is integrating AI tools directly into existing creator workflows.

The company is also expanding its likeness-detection system to creators aged 18 and older. The feature aims to help users identify and remove AI-generated videos that falsely imitate or misrepresent them.

Creators who believe they have been deepfaked can request video removals through YouTube’s reporting systems.

However, experts still question how effective these systems will be as AI-generated videos become increasingly realistic.

Why Ask YouTube Matters

The launch of Ask YouTube signals a major change in how online search may evolve over the coming years.

Keyword-based search is gradually giving way to conversational AI systems that interpret context, intent, and follow-up questions more naturally.

For YouTube creators, that shift could influence how audiences discover videos and how content performs on the platform.

At the same time, the rapid growth of AI-generated media continues to raise concerns around misinformation, deepfakes, and digital authenticity.

As AI tools become more integrated into social platforms, technology companies will face increasing pressure to balance innovation with user trust and creator protection.
