Chinese EV brands surge

The rise of Chinese EV brands is undeniable, as both Omoda and Jaecoo top the electric vehicle (EV) order charts for 2025. Octopus Electric Vehicles, a major leasing company, reports that the Omoda E5 was the best-selling electric vehicle of the year, surpassing well-known models like the Tesla Model Y and Mercedes EQB. With the introduction of the Jaecoo E5 in the last quarter of 2025, this surge in demand signals a shift toward newer brands offering high-spec vehicles at competitive prices.

Omoda and Jaecoo: Leading the Charge in 2025 Fleet Sales

In the final quarter of 2025, the Jaecoo E5 emerged as the top performer, marking its rapid ascent in the EV market just months after its debut. Octopus Electric Vehicles highlighted this shift as an indication of how consumer preferences are evolving toward high-quality electric options from lesser-known, yet innovative, manufacturers.

For 2025, the rankings were as follows:

  • Omoda E5
  • Tesla Model Y
  • Mercedes EQB
  • Cupra Born
  • MG MG4

The Jaecoo E5 was a standout in Q4, making a notable impact in the UK fleet market. According to Alvin Castillo, procurement director at Octopus Electric Vehicles, the E5’s stylish design, practicality, and competitive pricing made it a hit with fleet customers. “When great design and great value line up, drivers move fast,” Castillo noted.

Fleet and Salary Sacrifice Drivers Opt for Value and Usability

The Omoda E5 and Jaecoo E5 are not just attracting individual buyers but also gaining traction among fleet and salary sacrifice drivers. The strong demand for affordable, high-spec EVs is reshaping the UK’s fleet market, and the value proposition offered by these Chinese brands is leading the charge. Octopus Electric Vehicles cites value, familiarity, and everyday usability as key factors driving sustained demand.

The Future of EVs: A Focus on Hatchbacks

Looking to the future, 2026 is set to be the year of the electric hatchback, with models like the VW ID Polo, Cupra Raval, and Geely EX2 entering the market. However, brands like Omoda and Jaecoo are already setting the stage for a new era of affordable luxury in the electric vehicle space. As Alvin Castillo from Octopus points out, luxury is now genuinely affordable, especially with brands offering top specifications at competitive prices.

The Growing Influence of Chinese EV Brands

As 2026 unfolds, competition in the electric vehicle market is expected to intensify, with more established manufacturers introducing new electric models. However, Chinese EV brands like Omoda and Jaecoo are well-positioned to challenge traditional players, especially as they focus on providing value, innovative features, and sustainable solutions. With fleet procurement gaining momentum, the future of Chinese EVs in the UK looks bright, signaling a shift in consumer attitudes toward electric vehicles and sustainable driving options.
