HSBC has secured a Regional Headquarters (RHQ) license for its Capital Markets and Advisory business in Saudi Arabia, marking a significant expansion of the bank’s operations in one of the world’s fastest-growing financial markets. This move reinforces HSBC’s strategic commitment to Saudi Arabia, which has been actively working to position itself as a leading global financial hub.
HSBC Saudi Investment: A Strategic Move for Growth
The new RHQ license will allow HSBC to consolidate its investment banking operations and expand its footprint in the Kingdom. This is part of a broader strategy to enhance the bank’s role in the Middle East’s rapidly developing capital markets. Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Investment, Khalid Al-Falih, praised the move, stating that it highlights the Kingdom’s success in attracting global financial institutions.
HSBC executives noted that establishing a regional headquarters in Riyadh is a natural next step in the bank’s longstanding relationship with the Kingdom. “Establishing our regional headquarters in Riyadh consolidates our expertise at the heart of one of the most dynamic regions in the world,” said Adam Bagshaw, Global Head of Capital Markets and Advisory at HSBC.
Supporting Saudi Arabia’s Economic Transformation
The establishment of the RHQ is expected to play a key role in supporting Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, with a focus on advancing the country’s economic transformation. “With the formation of our Capital Markets and Advisory RHQ, we will be at the forefront of contributing to the Kingdom’s economic transformation ambitions,” said Faris AlGhannam, CEO of HSBC Saudi Arabia.
HSBC’s Continued Commitment to Saudi Arabia
HSBC has a long history of operations in Saudi Arabia, where it has been active for more than 70 years. The bank remains a major player in Saudi Arabia’s financial market, advising on landmark transactions such as the Aramco IPO and Elm’s acquisition of Thiqah. The establishment of the RHQ and the expansion of HSBC’s regional offices further solidifies the bank’s role in shaping Saudi Arabia’s financial future.
