Huawei has shared impressive data revealing that more than 90% of its existing devices are now compatible with HarmonyOS 6 version 6.0.1 (API 21), marking a significant milestone in the company’s software evolution. Although Huawei did not break down the data by device category, such as smartphones or tablets, the percentage indicates the widespread adoption of this newer version of their operating system.

HarmonyOS 6 Gains Major Traction

According to the data, the API 21 version of HarmonyOS 6 has become the dominant operating system for Huawei devices, covering 91.5% of the company’s devices. This is a huge leap from previous versions, particularly HarmonyOS 5.0.5 (API 17), which accounts for only 4.41% of devices.

Since Huawei launched HarmonyOS 5 as its native operating system, the company has broken free from its reliance on Android’s app-support structure. This shift marked a significant turning point for Huawei as it transitioned to a more self-reliant platform. While a few of the older Huawei devices may not be able to support the native HarmonyOS API, the vast majority of newer models have made the switch.

What This Means for Users and Developers

The latest HarmonyOS 6 update continues to improve platform compatibility, meaning more users can enjoy the benefits of Huawei’s fully integrated ecosystem. For developers, this update provides a solid foundation for building apps that can run smoothly on most Huawei devices. This compatibility push also includes the HarmonyOS 6 developer beta version 6.0.2, which focuses on improving user experience and adding new features. However, its device support rate is still relatively low at the moment.

Looking Ahead

As HarmonyOS continues to evolve, Huawei is making clear strides in creating a unified ecosystem that extends beyond just smartphones. While older devices may be left behind, the majority of Huawei’s user base will benefit from faster updates, better security, and a more refined operating system moving forward.

This update is yet another indication of Huawei’s commitment to enhancing its own platform and further distancing itself from Android, solidifying HarmonyOS as the future of the Huawei ecosystem.

With HarmonyOS 6 now available on more than 90% of Huawei devices, users can look forward to an improved and more seamless experience across their Huawei devices.
