Huawei telco market

The Huawei telco market position continues to dominate the global telecommunications equipment industry, even as new investments in artificial intelligence infrastructure reshape network spending worldwide.

Recent analysis from Dell’Oro Group shows that the global telecom equipment sector recorded unexpected growth in 2025. The market expanded by about 4 percent during the year, largely driven by heavy investments in AI infrastructure and cloud networking.

Despite increasing competition from major technology vendors, the Huawei telco market leadership remains firmly intact.

Huawei telco market leadership across six network sectors

According to Dell’Oro’s latest research, the Huawei telco market presence extends across multiple telecom technology segments.

The research firm divides the telecom networking equipment market into six key categories. These include broadband access, microwave transport, optical transport, mobile core networks, radio access networks, and service provider routing and switching equipment.

Across these segments, Huawei remains the leading vendor in markets where it is allowed to compete.

This strong performance is not only due to Huawei’s massive domestic market in China. Telecom operators worldwide also rate the company’s network technology highly. As a result, many service providers still prefer to include Huawei as a major supplier whenever trade policies allow.

Huawei telco market share remains stable

Although the Huawei telco market leadership remains dominant, its market share has largely remained stable rather than expanding.

Huawei currently holds nearly one third of the global telecom equipment market. This share places the company far ahead of its closest competitors.

However, other vendors continue to compete strongly in specific network infrastructure areas.

Nokia telecom growth driven by optical networking

One notable development in the telecom equipment market is the gradual increase in Nokia’s market share.

Part of this growth comes from Nokia’s $2.3 billion acquisition of optical networking specialist Infinera, which closed about a year ago.

The company also benefits from strong demand for optical networking systems and routing equipment. These sectors experienced growth between 8 percent and 10 percent during 2025.

This expansion reflects rising investment in data centre infrastructure, including facilities designed for artificial intelligence workloads.

Telecom vendors benefit from AI infrastructure demand

Beyond Nokia, several other telecom technology companies are benefiting from the growing demand for AI infrastructure.

Ericsson’s market share remained relatively stable during the past year. Meanwhile, Cisco Systems and Ciena appear to be gaining momentum as companies expand their networking capacity to support cloud computing and AI systems.

Large-scale data centre investments are now driving demand for optical networking gear and high-capacity routing systems. These technologies form the backbone of modern AI-driven digital infrastructure.

Global telecom equipment market reaches about $87 billion

Dell’Oro’s analysis did not specify the total revenue generated by the telecom equipment market in 2025.

However, industry estimates suggest that the combined value of telecom network technology sales reached roughly $87 billion.

This figure represents an important milestone because analysts initially expected the sector to decline rather than grow during the year.

Instead, the market recorded a solid increase in value.

Several factors contributed to this growth. Inventory levels stabilised after earlier supply disruptions, currency movements supported vendor revenues, and demand remained strong across both wireless and wireline networking equipment.

At the same time, cloud service providers significantly increased spending on networking hardware to support AI infrastructure projects.

Huawei telco market outlook for telecom industry

Looking ahead, analysts expect the telecom equipment sector to continue expanding in the near term.

Dell’Oro forecasts that global telecom equipment revenue could grow between 2 percent and 4 percent in 2026 across the six key network segments.

Much of this momentum will continue to come from cloud computing providers building AI-ready infrastructure.

However, growth in wireless infrastructure spending may remain more modest compared with other networking sectors.

Even as the telecom technology landscape evolves, the Huawei telco market leadership remains one of the most stable forces in the industry. As long as the company remains active in major global markets, competitors will continue trying to close the gap in a sector increasingly shaped by AI and next-generation network technologies.
