Key Features of Riyadh’s $2.1bn Road Expansion Projects

The Riyadh road expansion package consists of six major projects, set to be completed within three to four years. These include extensive upgrades to the city’s key transportation corridors, ensuring they can handle the growing traffic demands of the rapidly developing Saudi capital. Among the planned upgrades are:

  • Jeddah Road Development: A 29 km stretch with 14 bridges, increasing capacity to accommodate 353,000 vehicles daily.
  • Taif Road Development: A 15 km route designed to enhance traffic flow between Riyadh’s southern and western districts, with a capacity for 200,000 vehicles daily.
  • Thumamah Road Eastern Section: An 8 km stretch with three bridges and three tunnels, supporting up to 200,000 vehicles per day.

Improved Traffic Flow and Enhanced Connectivity

This Riyadh road expansion project also includes the development of several vital sections, such as the King Abdulaziz and Othman bin Affan road upgrades. These initiatives aim to increase road capacity, reduce congestion, and provide smoother traffic movement, ultimately improving the overall efficiency of the city’s transport network.

Supporting Vision 2030 with Strategic Infrastructure Investments

As part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 transformation plan, the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) is heavily investing in modern infrastructure to position Riyadh as a global city of the future. These developments are pivotal in preparing the city for the growing demands of the future while supporting both domestic and international business activities.
