Telefónica Ericsson MWC 2026

Telefónica, NTT Data, and Ericsson are taking center stage at MWC 2026 with a groundbreaking collaboration aimed at transforming motorsport connectivity. As part of the GSMA’s CircuitX Showcase, the companies will present live demonstrations that bring 5G technology, drone security, real-time race telemetry, and augmented/virtual reality (AR/VR) fan experiences to the forefront of motorsports. Taking place at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, the event will showcase how mobile technology is revolutionizing both the behind-the-scenes infrastructure and fan engagement in motorsports.

A New Era of Motorsport Connectivity

The CircuitX Showcase, launched last year at MWC 2025, is back to push the boundaries of connectivity in motorsports. The showcase will feature live demonstrations from leading motorsport teams, illustrating the power of 5G in transmitting real-time telemetry data, as well as how drones are enhancing security measures during events. Additionally, the event will offer an immersive fan experience through AR/VR, allowing spectators to feel closer to the action than ever before.

“CircuitX is not just a showcase; it’s a vision for the future of connected experiences,” said John Hoffman, CEO of GSMA Ltd. “This collaboration between GSMA and its partners aims to set new standards for safety, efficiency, and fan engagement by integrating cutting-edge mobile technologies into motorsports.”

Telefónica Powers 5G Connectivity Backbone

As the primary 5G provider for the CircuitX Showcase, Telefónica will ensure that all demonstrations run smoothly with its robust 5G network. The telecommunications giant has been instrumental in enabling live 5G broadcasts and in-race data communication, pushing the envelope in terms of what’s possible in a high-speed, data-intensive environment like motorsports.

“We are thrilled to provide the 5G connectivity backbone that will power the CircuitX experience,” said Telefónica’s spokesperson. “Our cutting-edge mobile technology will help bring new dimensions of interactivity and engagement to fans while ensuring that data flows seamlessly throughout the event.”

Ericsson’s Role in 5G and Live Telemetry

Ericsson will contribute to the live 5G network infrastructure, providing the technological muscle behind the real-time race telemetry and data analytics. With Ericsson’s solutions, motorsport teams will be able to send and receive data from the track, giving them critical insights into vehicle performance, track conditions, and race strategy. This integration of 5G and real-time data is expected to revolutionize how teams prepare and execute their strategies during high-stakes events.

A Holistic Experience with AI and Drones

NTT Data’s role in the showcase involves the use of AI applications that enhance both operational efficiency and safety during the races. By analyzing vast amounts of data in real-time, the AI systems will assist teams and organizers in making quick decisions to improve safety protocols and operational performance.

Additionally, drones will play a key role in securing the event, providing real-time aerial footage and monitoring critical areas of the track. These cutting-edge technologies combine to provide a seamless and connected experience for both teams and fans.

What’s Next for CircuitX?

CircuitX is part of a three-year initiative that covers five main areas: travel and navigation, security and safety, fan movement, fan experience, and race telemetry. As the project evolves, more innovations will be introduced, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with mobile technology in motorsports.

This collaboration signals an exciting future for mobile connectivity in motorsports and sets the stage for new experiences at MWC 2026. As the technology landscape continues to evolve, we can expect even more groundbreaking advancements that will transform the world of sports entertainment, with mobile technology at the core of these changes.
