Uganda digital innovation gets a major boost as ICT Innovation Hub partners DASUNS to promote inclusive tech solutions.

Uganda digital innovation has received a major push after the National ICT Innovation Hub entered into a new partnership with the Diversity Ability Support Network System, DASUNS, to promote technology that works for everyone, including persons with disabilities.

The partnership was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at strengthening disability-inclusive innovation in Uganda’s fast-growing digital economy. The agreement brings together two institutions with a shared goal: to make technology more accessible, practical and empowering for all citizens.

Under the collaboration, the National ICT Innovation Hub and DASUNS will work together to support innovators, startups and digital creators who are developing solutions that respond to the needs of persons with disabilities. The initiative is expected to encourage more inclusive thinking in product design, service delivery and digital entrepreneurship.

Uganda digital innovation has grown rapidly in recent years, with more young people, startups and institutions using technology to solve everyday problems. However, many digital tools still leave out persons with disabilities because of poor accessibility, limited awareness or lack of inclusive design.

The new partnership seeks to close that gap by encouraging innovators to think beyond general users and design solutions that can serve people with different physical, visual, hearing and cognitive needs.

The National ICT Innovation Hub is expected to provide a platform for innovators to learn, test and scale inclusive digital solutions. DASUNS, on the other hand, brings experience in disability support, advocacy and community engagement.

For Uganda digital innovation to deliver real impact, it must reach people who are often excluded from mainstream technology. Persons with disabilities face daily barriers in education, employment, transport, communication and access to public services. Inclusive technology can help reduce these barriers. It can support remote learning, improve access to information, expand job opportunities and make essential services easier to use.

Through the agreement, both organisations are expected to create opportunities for training, mentorship, awareness campaigns and innovation support. These activities will help developers and entrepreneurs understand how to build products that are accessible and useful to persons with disabilities.

The collaboration between the National ICT Innovation Hub and DASUNS marks an important moment for Uganda’s technology sector. It shows that innovation is most powerful when it solves real human problems and gives everyone a chance to participate.
