European esports organization Alliance has made a significant move by signing Liam ‘MaiL09’ Tügel to its Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) roster on a season-long loan from Metizport. The 16-year-old Swedish rifler, one of Counter-Strike’s most promising young talents, will debut for the organization at the upcoming United 21 x Esplay Challenge, taking place from January 23-25, 2026.

MaiL09’s addition to Alliance fills the void left by Alex ‘poiii’ Nyholm Sundgren, who joined 100 Thieves in late 2025. In December 2025, Metizport made the decision to bench MaiL09, citing team structure and role requirements as factors in the move. However, this new opportunity with Alliance offers the young player a chance to gain invaluable experience at a high competitive level.

The Swedish rifler is already a standout talent in the CS2 scene, having set a record for the highest FACEIT ELO in history in November 2025. This achievement surpassed the previous record held by Team Spirit’s Danil ‘donk’ Kryshkovets, solidifying MaiL09 as one of the brightest stars in esports.

Alliance’s move comes as the team aims for a strong start to 2026. The organization, currently ranked 42nd in the Valve Regional Standings (VRS), hopes that MaiL09’s addition will help propel them up the ranks as they focus on securing a spot in the IEM Cologne Major in June.

The United 21 x Esplay Challenge, where MaiL09 will make his debut, features 15 teams from across Europe and Australia competing for a share of a $10,000 prize pool. Notable teams in the tournament include BIG, Johnny Speeds, and the Australian side SemperFi Esports, with Metizport also competing.

For MaiL09, the event represents another opportunity to gain valuable LAN experience and further establish himself as one of the most exciting prospects in Counter-Strike 2. The tournament’s group stages and single-elimination bracket will give the young rifler crucial exposure, especially as he continues to develop and impress within the competitive gaming community.

MaiL09’s loan to Alliance marks an exciting new chapter in his career. With his impressive record and growing reputation, he is expected to make a significant impact on the team and help drive them toward greater success in the esports scene.
