Kuwait debt relief efforts have reached a major milestone after the country concluded its third National Campaign for Debtors, settling millions in outstanding liabilities for thousands of financially distressed citizens. The initiative reflects Kuwait’s continued commitment to social protection and humanitarian support.
Kuwait Debt Relief Clears Thousands of Cases
The Ministry of Social Affairs confirmed that the latest debt relief campaign resolved the debts of 2,635 Kuwaiti men and women, with total payments amounting to KD15.37 million. The funds were disbursed as part of the third National Campaign for Debtors, which officially concluded this week.
Dr. Khaled Al-Ajmi, Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Chair of the Debtors Committee, said the final batch of payments has now been transferred to the Ministry of Justice to complete all remaining legal procedures.
Campaign Surpasses Previous Kuwait Debt Relief Efforts
According to officials, this phase of debt relief outperformed the previous two campaigns in both the total funds raised and the number of cases addressed. Authorities credited the success to strong coordination between government agencies, charitable organisations, and community donors.
The ministry reported that the campaign led to the closure of 4,345 legal cases, significantly reducing financial and legal strain on affected families across the country.
Transparent Process Under Kuwait Debt Relief Programme
Payments were issued in six structured batches, with individual settlements capped at KD16,500. Officials said all disbursements followed clearly defined eligibility rules designed to ensure fairness and transparency.
More than 9,000 applications were reviewed by six specialised committees representing government bodies and charitable institutions. Authorities excluded cases that had already benefited from earlier campaigns, as well as debts owed to government entities and telecommunications companies.
Strengthening Social Stability Through Kuwait Debt Relief
Dr. Al-Ajmi expressed gratitude to Kuwait’s leadership, the Cabinet, and the Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs, Dr. Amthal Al-Huwaila, for backing the initiative. He also thanked major donors whose contributions made the campaign possible.
He reaffirmed that Kuwait debt relief initiatives remain a cornerstone of the country’s broader social welfare strategy, aimed at protecting families, preserving dignity, and reinforcing long-standing humanitarian values.
