Matter-compatible cameras

Samsung Electronics has made a significant leap in the smart home space by announcing that its SmartThings platform is the first to support Matter-compatible cameras. This update, which will roll out in December 2025, extends the functionality of SmartThings to include cameras, marking a major milestone in the development of global smart home standards.

Expanding SmartThings’ Capabilities
With the integration of Matter 1.5, Samsung’s SmartThings platform now supports a wide range of Matter-compatible cameras, including indoor and outdoor security cameras, video doorbells, and more. This update comes on the heels of the Connectivity Standard Alliance (CSA) unveiling Matter 1.5, which not only introduces camera support but also enhances features like smart blinds, garage doors, and energy management systems.

“We aim to deliver a unified experience for products and services across brands and protocols through SmartThings,” said Jaeyeon Jung, Executive Vice President of SmartThings at Samsung Electronics. The company’s commitment to expanding its support for industry standards like Matter is expected to enhance user experience and convenience.

Boosting Security with Smart Home Cameras
The inclusion of Matter-compatible cameras in SmartThings offers improved security and safety for users. Features such as live video streaming, two-way communication, motion detection, and event history will now be available through Matter devices. The ability to integrate these cameras seamlessly into SmartThings simplifies home monitoring, making it easier for homeowners to stay connected to their property, pets, and loved ones.

Collaborating with Leading IoT Brands
Samsung’s collaboration with top IoT brands like Aqara, Eve, and Ulticam has led to the development of Matter-compatible cameras that will be available starting in March 2026. SmartThings already partners with leading brands such as Arlo, Ring, and Hue, offering users an extensive variety of smart home camera options that work across multiple protocols and connection methods.

Driving Industry Leadership
By rapidly adopting Matter 1.5, Samsung continues to expand its open-platform strategy, supporting more than 4,700 models from over 390 partner brands. This growth reinforces SmartThings’ leadership in the smart home space, offering users even more choices for a connected home.
