UAE Spam Calls: Financial Sector Dominates

The UAE continues to excel in digital security, ranking 11th in overall spam call volume in the Middle East, according to recent data from Truecaller. Despite this strong security infrastructure, the financial sector is a notable exception, accounting for nearly 30% of all unwanted phone calls reported in the country.

Unwanted Calls by Sector

Truecaller’s survey revealed that 19.4% of all spam reports were related to banking and financial services, making this sector the largest contributor to unsolicited calls in the UAE. This is almost double the percentage for general marketing calls, which stand at 10%. The financial sector’s dominance is further underscored when combined with calls from insurance and broader financial services, which together make up almost a third of reported spam.

Despite this issue, the UAE still maintains one of the lowest rates of unsolicited calls in the region, a reflection of its robust digital infrastructure and stringent regulatory measures aimed at enhancing mobile security.

Efforts to Tackle Spam Calls

Rishit Jhunjhunwala, Global CEO at Truecaller, commended the UAE’s commitment to digital security, emphasizing the need for further enhancing trust and transparency in communications. He urged residents to use identification features provided by the Truecaller app to differentiate between important service calls and unsolicited solicitations, promoting safer and more efficient communication as mobile usage continues to rise.
